Two players, two small goals (bags, bottles, jumpers — two steps wide), a pitch the size of a bedroom rug up to a garage. First to five, then swap who kicks off. Keep score out loud. That’s the game — everything else is rounds:
round 1 — free. any touch, any move. find out who’s who today. round 2 — weak foot only. goals only count off the weak foot. suddenly it’s a thinking game. round 3 — two-touch. two touches max, then you must shoot or lose it. first touch becomes everything. round 4 — defender’s choice. loser of round 3 picks the rule. inventing rules is half the football.
Attack and defence swap constantly, nobody stands in line, and every second is a decision — this is the practice a thousand drills imitate.
progression. smaller pitch = more touches, tighter control. bigger pitch = more running, more change of pace. a keeper-less goal you must stop the ball on (not blast through) teaches placement over power.
